F. Wayne McFarland Obituary
McFarland, F. Wayne 81 of Homosassa died on July 22. By his side was his beloved wife and childhood friend, Pamela, and his faithful companion Tux.
Wayne was born in Key West, Florida on October 12, 1934 the son of Leon and Flora Yulee Lumley McFarland. He was proud of his Bahamian heritage and of being a Key West Conch. After graduation from Key West High School in 1952 he joined the U.S. Army and trained as a paratrooper at Fort Bragg, NC.
Wayne was promptly promoted to Staff Sergeant. He was sent to Germany and was selected to be in the U.S. Army's 10th Special Forces group (Airborne) later known as the Green Berets. During his time in the Army he was sent to language school and became fluent in Russian and German. He also trained in Guerrilla Warfare and became a ski instructor. After leaving the Army he earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Florida (1966) and his Master's in Business from Stetson University (1970) while working for Pan American Airways.
During his time with Pan Am he worked on the missile tracking range in Eleuthera, Bahamas. and Ascension Island in the South Atlantic Ocean and also at Cape Kennedy, Fl. Wayne lived in the Ocala area for forty years working in the private sector and then becoming the Finance Director for the City of Ocala. Upon leaving this position he started his own Accounting Firm as an enrolled agent representing his clients in front of the IRS. While in Ocala he was involved with many civic organizations and was a member of the Ocala Scottish Society. Wayne was an active member of the Grace Episcopal Church and served a term as Treasurer.
Wayne is survived by his wife Pamela, John Russell Odden and his wife Michelle of Powhatan, Va. their children Christopher and David. Richard Norman Odden and his wife Mariah of Atlanta, Ga. and the late Lynn Ellen Odden. A niece Lynn Brady. Cousins Joy Lorraine and her husband Robert Sarles of Gainesville, Fl. Barbara Ann and her husband Raymond Archer of Old Town, Fl. and Peggy and her husband Wayne Brown of Dunnellon, Fl.
A celebration of life will be held on August 6, 2016 at 2 PM at the Riverhaven Village Clubhouse on 11450 Riverhaven Drive, Homosassa, Fl. 34446. Wayne's ashes will be placed in the Key West City Cemetery at a later date.
