Gary Louis Goetsch, 57, of Crystal River, Florida, passed away of lung cancer Friday, June 6, 2014, surrounded by his family. Gary was born in Streator, Illinois, to Louis and Barbara (Raymond) Goetsch. He graduated from Ottawa Township High School, of Ottawa Illinois, in 1975. Gary was a life-long employee of Precision Surveillance Corporation holding the titles of Field and General Superintendent. His colleagues dubbed him "The Godfather" because of his vast knowledge and experience in the nuclear industry. He oversaw numerous post-tensioning surveillance projects for nuclear power plants spanning across the nation. Gary had been working at the Crystal River nuclear power plant until he was forced to stop due to his illness.
Gary loved to be active in his free time. He liked to work on his home, updating and remodeling, often crafting and building from his own designs. He enjoyed watching films and his favorite television series. He loved cooking and grilling, swimming, four-wheeling, gardening, and "power shopping". He spent much of his time traveling (he really did love his RV); but where he was the happiest was at home surrounded by his family, friends, and pets.
Gary was a kind and loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Deborah; daughters, Ayla, Michelle (Chris) Schatz and Heather (Damion) Ham; grandchildren, Angeles, Aiden, Jozef and Miles; parents, Louis and Barbara Goetsch; brothers, Louis (Michelle) Goetsch, Jeff (Kathy) Goetsch, Tim (Wendy) Goetsch; and many loving nephews, nieces, and extended family members.
A special thank you to the Citrus County Hospice House of Lecanto Florida for their loving care and support. The Goetsch family asks that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Hospice House in Gary's honor. A memorial will be at 6:30 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home in Crystal River Florida, Friday June 13, 2014. A second memorial service will be at 4 p.m., at Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, Illinois, Friday, June 20.
