George E. Allen Obituary
The Service of Remembrance for Mr. George E. Allen, age 81, of Inverness, Florida, will be held at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the First Baptist Church of Inverness, Inverness, FL with Dr. Byron Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from until 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM, at the church. Interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 10:30 AM.
George Edwin Allen, was born on January 17, 1935 to George C. and Ruth Thawley Allen in Madison County, Indiana.
George graduated from Flora High School and served in the United States Army Aug 1954 to Aug 1956, stationed in Garmisch, Germany, He graduated from Purdue University June, 1960 and was immediately employed by McGill Manufacturing bearing division (Emerson Electric) until his retirement in 1998.
George leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, JoEllen Wagoner Allen and three children, Dr. George David Allen (Cindy), Lori Anne Allen Monahan (Thomas), and James Edwin Allen (Kassi). Thirteen grandchildren: James Donald Allen (Mary Kathryn), Katie Allen Eastep (Barry), Michael Allen, Maggie Allen Doll (David), Jeffrey Allen (Lauren), Jonathan Allen (Nichole), Rebecca Allen, Shaun Allen, Caitlin Monohan, Lance Corporal Thomas George Monahan, Olivia Allen, Madelyn Allen and Holly Allen.
Five great grandchildren: James, Mary JoEllen, and Stephen Allen;, Kaden and Alexander Eastep. Two sisters, Darlene Allen of Lutz, FL; Sue Shields of Tennessee and a brother, James Allen of Flora, Indiana.
George was a member of the First Baptist Church of Inverness and was a deacon and choir member of the Second Baptist Church of Suffield, CT for 30 years. He was also a member of the Citrus Hills Golf Club; Ocala Model Airplane Club. He was an excellent ballroom dancer who enjoyed fishing and sailing.
