Gerald Joyce Rhodes Obituary
A Service of Remembrance for Mr. Gerald Joyce Rhodes will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Beverly Hills Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes with Pastor Gordon Condit officiating. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Rhodes was born July 21, 1930 in Summit, NJ, to George Josiah and Edna Emiline. He died August 30 at the Brentwood Retirement Home, Lecanto. Jerry served in the United States Navy during the time of the Korean War. Following his discharge, he worked as an electrical engineer for Western Electric in Newark, NJ and then in Baltimore, MD. He was married to Ruth Sahlman from Union, NJ for 59 years. Jerry, a born again Christian, was an active member of the Hydewood Baptist Church in North Plainfield, NJ and then an active member in the Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church. When he retired, he and his wife moved to Oak Ridge Development in Beverly Hills, FL. Jerry enjoyed woodworking, computers and traveling. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease which he struggled with for over twenty years. His final days were spent under the incredible care of the staff at the Health Care facility at Brentwood. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Edna and his brother Donald Rhodes. Survivors include his wife Ruth Rhodes and his brother Gene Rhodes.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Seven Rivers Presbyterian Building Fund, 4221 W. Gulf to Lake Hwy, Lecanto, FL 34461.
