Henry Mathias "Hank" Embach Obituary
Henry Mathias (Hank) Embach, 89, of Crystal River, Florida passed away peacefully at his home on August 27, 2017. He was surrounded by his loving family whom he lived every moment of his life for.
Hank is preceded in death by his loving wife and soulmate of 55 years, Wanda Bernice Embach and his parents William Trevor Embach and Mildred B. Kennedy Embach. He is survived by his loving children Sandra (Embach) Taulbee, Henry Michael Embach and wife Cynthia, Nedra (James) Sinclair and Teresa Allen; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren 7 great-great grandchildren; and his nephew James D Anderson. His presence will be sorely missed by countless others who will miss his quick humor and loving spirit.
He was born September 12, 1927 in Evanston, Illinois and moved to Florida at the age of 9. He spent most of his childhood growing up on the St John's River in Deland, Florida where he learned how to grunt/call for alligators better than anyone.
Hank was a World War II veteran where he served as a Builder 2nd Class (BU2) in the US Navy Seabees 117th Construction Battalion for 4 years. He was transported on the USS General Anderson and served in both Guam and Saipan before his honorable discharge on August 26, 1948.
After his discharge, Hank started working for Florida Power Corporation, where he worked for 36 years. His most rewarding achievement of his lengthy career was being the first NRC licensed Sr. Reactor Operator to start up the CR3 Nuclear Plant.
Hank was very active and involved in the community. He was extremely proud to be a Shriner and a member of the Homosassa Springs Masonic Lodge #378. Hank was a Master of the Royal Secret of the 32nd Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. He was also a charter member of the Navy Seabee Veterans of America Island X-18 of Citrus County and Island X-23 of Crystal River and a former member of Island X-6 of Brooksville. He served as Treasurer for both Island X-18 and Island X-23 and most recently the Chaplain of Island X-23.
Hank always enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking (making his signature fishing lures) and gardening but nothing made him any happier than traveling with his wife Wanda in their motor home and spending time with his family.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of Hospice of Citrus County and the Nature Coast. Their effort to provide quality care and comfort during his final days at home was a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Hank to Hospice of Citrus County and the Nature Coast at PO Box 641270 Beverly Hills, FL 34464
A celebration of life service will be held for Hank at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 2nd at Strickland Funeral Home located at 1901 S.E. Highway 19, Crystal River, FL.
