Herbert Ratcliff, 89, of Homosassa, Fla., passed away at 1:35 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2012, in his residence.
Services to celebrate Herbert's life will begin with a time of visitation from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home in Mt. Zion.
Herbert will be laid to rest following a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. in North Fork Cemetery in Decatur. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to any Hospice program of the donor's choice. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com.
Herbert was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Parsons, Kan., the son of Ernest and Hester (Blodgett) Ratcliff. He married Charline "Sandy" Tate on May 7, 1945. They celebrated 67 years of marriage. He served in the Navy and was a WWII veteran. Herbert retired in 1979 as the manager of the Brettwood Station for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Chassahowitzka, Fla.
Survivors are his wife, Sandy of Homosassa, Fla.; sons, Steve Ratcliff and his wife Carolyn of Homosassa, Fla., and David Ratcliff and his wife Vickie of Decatur; daughter, Janice Schwalbe and her husband, Larry, of Homosassa, Fla.; sister, Virginia Suttles and her husband David of Ashville, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, his grandson, Philip, and his great-grandson, Ryan Christopher.
