Herman "Fred" Pfeifer Obituary
Herman Pfeifer, who preferred to be called Fred or H. Fred, 97, of Inverness, FL, died on April 15, 2016 at his daughter and son-in-law's home in Cape Coral, FL. Fred was an amazing gentleman, a great husband, son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend and neighbor to all who knew him. Fred was born on December 8, 1918, in Newark, NJ to Herman and Louise Pfeifer. Fred served in the Army during WWII. After working as an apprentice in his father's business, Fred owned and operated New Jersey Sanitary Service. He was city born and raised, but had country in his heart. After he met and married the love of his life, Jean Peterson, they purchased property in East Hanover, NJ. Through a long, arduous two year process, they built their home on weekends with two small sons in tow. Besides raising their three children, Fred also tried "living off the land" by raising goats, chickens, rabbits and bees as a means to help support his family. He made time to volunteer in his communities with the auxiliary Police, American Legion, Boy and Girl Scouts, Hanover Park Band Parents Association, First Presbyterian Church, Audubon Society and Milford Library. After reaching his goal of retiring at age 50, Fred and Jean moved to Cranberry Lake, NJ, Inverness, FL and Gold Key Lake, PA., where they spent many happy years as "snow birds". Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sara J. Sansone and her husband, Alfred J. Sansone; grandchildren Fred, Donna, Eric, Jessica, and Alfred III along with five great grandchildren and his former daughter-in-law Barbara. He will also be missed by his nephews, nieces, and special friends; Katie, Sue, Henry, Joan, Mary, Pete, Luanne, Roger and Jeannie. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 64 years, Jean, sons, Fred and Bob and his sister Mary. A Celebration of Fred's life will be held at the Heinz Funeral Home, 2507 Hwy 44 W in Inverness, FL on Friday, April 22 at 10:00 AM. Interment with Military Honors will immediately follow at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. In Lieu of Flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Guardian Angel for Special Populations, a 501 (c) organization that supports individuals with intellectual disabilities P.O. Box 151321, Cape Coral, FL 33915. Heinz Funeral Home, Inverness, FL.
