Howard Ernsting Obituary
Howard Raymond Ernsting, age 88, of Inverness, FL. He was born April 27, 1927 to the late Raymond and Frieda (Meierhoff) Ernsting in Campbell Hill, IL. After a long struggle with Parkinson's, he passed away Saturday evening February 6, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. surrounded by his loving family under the care of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast.
Howard was a member of First Lutheran church in Inverness, FL, where he was an Elder, Usher, on the Stewardship Committee and former Vice President of the local Thrivent Association.
He married Maydell (Wilson) Ernsting on November 15, 1952 at Peace Lutheran Church in Steeleville, IL and were married for 63 years and survives at the home.
He served in the Merchant Marines from June 1945 - 1949 and the U. S Army from 1949 - 1951 then transferred to the Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1957. He worked for Southern Illinois Breeding Association, was a Carpenter and Millwright for most of his life and retired from Florida Crushed Stone in 1991. His hobbies included sailing, woodworking, camping and spending time with his family.
He is survived by one son Marcus Paul Ernsting (Patty) of Lake City, FL; two daughters Patricia Mae(James) Sternberg of Columbia, MO; Melissa Kay Gilhooly of Davenport, IA; four grandchildren Jill Lynn Brock of Springfield, Mo; Christopher Scott Sternberg of Seattle, WA; Christopher Bryan and Mary Katelynn Gilhooly of Davenport, IA; three great grandchildren Maggie Lynn and Sadie Mae Brock and Seamus Daniel Gilhooly; one brother Earl Ernsting of Percy, IL. and many brothers and sisters in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother John Paul Ernsting of Steeleville, IL and Three brother-in-laws Melivin Wilson of Steeleville, IL; Earl Wilson of Chester, IL; and Delbert Wilson of Arnold, MO.
Memorial Service will be held Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the 1st Lutheran Church of Inverness, FL with Rev. Thomas Beaverson officiating. Internment will be at The National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Memorials may be given to 1st Lutheran Church of Inverness, FL or to Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast. Chas E.
