Jacqueline Freedman Evans (1928 - 2015)

Obituary
The Guest Book is expired.

Jacqueline Freedman Evans died peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2015, in Crystal River, at the age of 86. She is survived by her husband, Scott Forbes, and her children, David, Kathy, Debbie, Danny, Amy and Peggy, her stepson Allan, her special niece Laurie, twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Jackie was born on December 3, 1928 in Syracuse, NY, and later moved to Miami, Florida. Her life was inspired, supported, and encouraged by her loving father, Jess Freedman, who she deeply respected and adored.
She married her first husband, Ralph "Ace" Evans, and they moved to Watertown, NY, where they started raising a family, before moving to Albany where she began her college studies at Russell Sage. In 1961, she and her family returned to Miami. There she continued her college career at Miami Dade, Florida Atlantic University, the University of Miami, and Barry University, studying Management, Community Counseling, Human Relations, and Education, and proudly receiving her Master's degree.
Jackie did everything passionately, and she was engaged in many areas. She was an ardent political activist and community leader and treasured her involvement in the Unitarian fellowship, where she met her current husband, Scott. Jackie worked for numerous companies and organizations, including Mount Sinai Hospital, the United States Department of Justice, and the U.S. Immigration Service.
Jackie and Scott moved to Crystal River in 1993, along with four of her children and her grandchildren, taking to her new community with open arms and an open heart. She was much beloved by her extensive family and wide circle of friends, bringing energy and laughter to every gathering. She was fiercely committed to social justice in all walks of life and passed that deep commitment on to her children. She was not afraid to try new things; late in life she added painting and piano to cooking, gardening, pampering their dogs and many other spirited pursuits. She was a great talker and an even better listener.
Jackie will be loved and missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know her, especially her children and grandchildren.
