James Darrell Steele, age 81, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2016 surrounded by family. The Lord received a faithful servant, a strong Christian man, who exemplified both value and service. He was born on January 25, 1935 in Charleston, WV. For 35 years he and his wife resided in Belle, WV and in 1997 they relocated to Inverness, Fl to enjoy their retirement. For the last year, they have been living in West Melbourne, Fl in a house with a beautiful lake view.
Jim graduated from DuPont High School, Belle, WV in 1951 and went to serve as a technician in the United States Air Force. He was employed by Union Carbide, South Charleston, WV until taking a permanent job at the 130th Unit of the WV Air National Guard. He retired as Chief Master Sergeant after serving his country for 41 years, including his service in Operation Desert Storm.
He was a member of Diamond Baptist Church in WV where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher. As a charter member of Cornerstone Baptist Church of Inverness, Fl, he served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Jim loved woodworking, golf, and spending time with his loving family. In addition to being a devoted father, he impacted the lives of many during his 10 years of coaching Little League Baseball. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Air Force never left him as his friends and family will attest.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rolonda 'Lonnie' Walker Steele. He also leaves behind three children, Juanita "Spunky" Spinks (Rick) of Crawley, WV, Mike Steele (Lisa) of West Melbourne, FL, and Kelly Hutchinson (Mike) of Belle, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ethel Steele, brother Robert Steele, sisters Judy Stone and Janet Gail Todd.
A special thank you to all the nurses and doctors of the Holmes Regional Hospital Heart Center's CCICU, for support in caring for Jim the last weeks of his life.
