Jean Borst Obituary
Jean Borst, 90, of Beverly Hills, FL passed away March 17, 2017. She was born March 11, 1927 in Syracuse, Kansas to William H. and Doris Cline Bradshaw. She came to Inverness in 1970 from Cobleskill, NY. After leaving Kansas in 1951, she lived in Roswell, New Mexico, moving from there to Cobleskill in 1958 and then to Inverness in 1970. She enjoyed a number of different and interesting employments during her lifetime. She worked as a civilian employee of Garden City Army Air Base in Kansas, during and after World War II. In Roswell, New Mexico, she wrote T.V. and Newspaper ads for an advertisement agency, later becoming an officer at the Roswell Police Department until leaving for New York. In Inverness she began a career in the travel industry at Roscow Travel Agency, later becoming the first manager of Accent Travel. She later opened three different travel agencies in Brooksville before retiring. In 1973 she was elected to the Inverness City Council service four years to 1977. Various activities included being one of the first charter members of Inverness VFW 4337 Ladies Auxiliary; was a member of the Inverness Women's Club for a period of time, singing with the "Singing Ladies" of that time. She was a past member of the congregation of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church of Inverness and was on the Vestry when the cornerstone of the present facility was laid. She also directed the Choir for approx. 7 years. She later joined the congregation of the First Assembly of God, Inverness, singing with the choir for approx. 20 years. Finally, she followed her heart and became part of the congregation of K'hilah Shalom Messianic Jewish Synagogue until a few years before her death. She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Cook of Beverly Hills and a son, Retired Chief David Borst of Wildwood; 5 grandchildren, Michael Cook of Knoxville, TN, Jill Smith of Oklahoma, James Merli of Tennessee, Timothy Borst of Wildwood and Jennifer Malloy of Beverly Hills as well as 14 great grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Private cremation will be under the direction of Brown Funeral Home & Crematory in Lecanto, FL with private burial at Magnolia Cemetery in Lecanto. A memorial Service will be held at 2PM, Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Joy and Praise Fellowship, 6670 N. Lecanto Hwy., Beverly Hills, FL.
