The Service of Remembrance for Mr. Jesse F. Hughes, age 97, of Beverly Hills, Florida, will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, September 18, 2015 at the Beverly Hills Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes. Interment will be held on Saturday at Miami Memorial Park, Miami, Florida. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial donations to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Mr. Hughes was born July 21, 1918 in Moultrie, GA, son of George and Hattie (Hiers) Hughes and died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, September 11, 2015 in Winter Haven, FL. Mr. Hughes was an avid bowler and World War II Army veteran, P.O.W. and recipient of various medals of accommodation. He worked as a horticulturist for Redlands Fruit and Spice Park in South Miami before retiring and moving to Beverly Hills.
Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alice Grant Hughes and 2 stepsons, Phillip Grant and William Grant. Survivors include 2 stepsons, Walter M. Grant and wife Kathy of Auburndale, FL and Jack Grant and wife, Kristen of Clyde, NC, 2 stepdaughters-in-law, Linda Hux of Orlando and Carolyn Grant of Cutler Ridge, niece, Viola Layman, 5 nephews, Harry, Roger and Ronald Hughes and Phillip and Tommy Bennett, 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He loved life and while not having any children, cherished his wife's family as his own.
