Mrs. Joan Elizabeth Munroe Schnably passed away peacefully Thursday, July 30, 2015, under the care of the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Born Aug. 12, 1932, in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Rose Munroe. Mrs. Schnably was a graduate of Hazelton High School in Hazelton, Pennsylvania. She became a registered nurse in 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1952 she married Navy veteran Richard Dean Schnably.
Joan was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and a longstanding member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Hershey, Pennsylvania. She held numerous roles in volunteer Christian and charitable organizations across multiple states over the course of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.
Preceding her in death, along with her parents, are her husband, Richard Dean; son Richard Lynn Schnably; and her brothers, Robert John and Thomas Munroe.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Mark Andrew Schnably (Jane) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; daughter, Patricia Allene Shields (Aidan) of Dublin, Ireland; brother, James Reese Munroe (Sylvia) of Stevensville, Montana; and grandchildren Rich Schnably, Grace Schnably and Allene Shields.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at the Chapel at the Bermuda Village Retirement Center, Bermuda Run, 142 Bermuda Village Drive, Advance, NC 27006, with a reception to follow. All friends of the family are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to , 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
