John F. "Fred" Bunts Sr. Obituary
John F. "Fred" Bunts, Sr., 71 of Crystal River departed this life Thursday January 7, 2016 at the Hospice House of Citrus County. He was born April 4, 1944 to John and Wilhelmina (Swann) Bunts in Brooksville, FL and was a life-long resident of Citrus County. Fred was a 1962 graduate of Crystal River High School. He was an all- conference athlete and played football for the Crystal River Pirates. He also excelled in music and was a member of the Marching Band. After graduation he joined the US Navy and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his honorable discharge from the service, he became an engineer for NASA and worked there during the Apollo Missions. He was a business owner in Crystal River and was the designer and inventor of the storm shelter system "Safe Porch". He was very involved in the community as a member of the board of directors for Seven Rivers Community Hospital. He was a Rotarian and was instrumental in developing the Fallen Heroes Monument at Bicentennial Park. He served on the Water Board and volunteered with Save Crystal River.
He was preceded in death by his wife Linda and a grandson Christian Lee Bunts. He is survived by his companion Anita Olbek-
Tooker, sons; Freddy (Gina), Todd (Crickett), Brad, Joshua, David (Danielle) and Jerry (Melissa), a brother Warren Bunts (Ann), brothers-in-law Tim Williams (Ginny) and Tony Williams (Kim), sister-in-law Diane Chester, 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins and his little dog Lilly.
Friends and family are invited to visitation from 6PM to 8PM on Monday January 11th at the Calvary Baptist Church, 257 NE 9th St. Crystal River, FL 34428. A memorial service will be held at 4 PM on Tuesday January 12th at the Church followed by a celebration of life reception in the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Moffitt Cancer Center or Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast. Strickland Funeral Home with Crematory of Crystal River is assisting the family with arrangements.
