Kenneth Pennoyer Obituary
Kenneth Gaines Pennoyer, 81, of Inverness, FL, died on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Kenneth was born on April 28, 1936 in Norwalk, Connecticut, the son of Louis and Gladys Stiles Pennoyer.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Betty Mills, and older brother Billy. Survivors include two children, Kenneth Clinton Pennoyer, of Durham, NC and Cynthia Jean Griffin, of Norwalk, CT, two brothers, David Pennoyer of Los Angeles, CA, and Robert Pennoyer of Wirtz, VA, and sister, Jean Glen of Jamestown, NC, Two grandchildren, Nicole Griffin Kevorkian and Meagan Griffin Bowden, and two great grandchildren, Graham Arthur and Ty William Kevorkian.
Before moving to Inverness, Kenneth owned an automotive repair shop in New Canaan, CT, where he was well-known for his ability to fix all things mechanical and for his integrity. He was a master mechanic and continued to work in retirement, mostly on lawnmowers and tractors, but he was willing to tackle any job that needed to be done. He enjoyed using his skills to help others and was always willing to share his expertise, including teaching small engine repair at Withlacoochee Technical College. Kenneth was also active in the recovery community and over the past thirty three years devoted his efforts toward helping others on the road to sobriety.
Kenneth enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was a regular at local car shows, where he could share his encyclopedic knowledge of automobiles and meet others that shared his enthusiasm for classic cars. He was an avid boater and loved to fish, especially with his children and grandchildren, who always enjoyed their outings regardless of whether any fish were caught.
A Memorial Service for Kenneth will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Heinz Funeral Home Chapel in Inverness, FL. Inurnment will take place on September 22, 2017 in Norwalk, CT at Riverside Cemetery.
