Leigh J. Knapp, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 16,2017 at The Waterford at Levis Commons in Perrysburg, Ohio.
Leigh was born August 28, 1923 in Battle Creek, Michigan the son of Lulubelle (Richmond) and Roy Knapp. He graduated from Albion High School. Following graduation, he joined the US Air Force and served proudly in the European Theater of Operations. Like all the brave veterans of this world war Leigh loved his country and was proud to serve.
He was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking and the University of Michigan School of Banking, and was employed as a bank Vice President.
Leigh was a tremendous family man; a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He married his wonderful wife, Lee Marie on June 16, 1946 and for the next 70 years they enjoyed traveling the world and good times with family and friends. Leigh had a big personality, always the life of the party his motto was "nothing beats fun! He was a huge fan of both college and professional sports and in particular his beloved Michigan Wolverines. Tailgate parties in Ann Arbor are still legendary in the Knapp household. Also an avid reader, he enjoyed books on the American Civil War.
Upon retirement, Leigh and his wife moved to Homosassa, FL where they enjoyed 25 retirement years while also working as a volunteer with the St Vincent De Paul Society of their church. They moved to Perrysburg in 2015.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Lee Marie, are his daughter Linda (Joseph) Murray of Sylvania, OH and his son Rick (Kendra) Knapp of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren Brian (Carol) Murray and Kelly (Brian) Condon and great grandchildren Aidan, Sophie, Keiran, Declan and Emmett Leigh, all of IL.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Rose Catholic Church, Perrysburg, OH on Saturday, January 28th, at 10:00 a.m.
Those who wish to remember Leigh in a special way are requested to make gifts in his memory to The Saint Vincent de Paul Society of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 7040 S. Suncoast Blvd., Homosassa, FL 34446.
