Malcolm Ellis Obituary
Malcolm Tarver (Al) Ellis, age 87, went to be with our savior on September 15, 2016 at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Al was born May 17, 1929 in Dalton Georgia to John and Mattie Ellis.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Sister, Johnnie Ellis Wyman; Brother Paul Ellis and grandson Zackery Ross.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Joan Eye Ellis; sisters: Frances Helton, Rosa Wilson and Margaret McDaniel; his children: Patti Ellis and Michael Striegel, Alan Ellis, Scott and Natalie Ellis, Donna Ellis Nelson and Keith Nelson; Dennis and Phyllis Ross, Michael Ross, Brad and Stephanie Ross; his grandchildren: John Malcolm Baxley, Ryan Nelson, Heather and Alison Skipper; David, Amber, and Kacie Ross, Rachel Kobes and great grandchildren: Lila Grace, Skyler, Matthew, Austin, and Camden.
Al proudly served his country at age 17 he enlisted in the Air Force where he served in Germany during WWII. He later re-enlisted and served during the Korean War in Guam and Okinawa. After his military service Al went on to pursue his passion in music and golf. He played in several bands; including The Day Busters in Panama City, Florida and the band Early Autumn. He went on to open Ellis Music store in Panama City, Florida in the 50's & 60's and was the co-owner of Al and Glen's restaurant on Panama City Beach in the 60's & 70's. Through the years Al managed several country clubs across the country and retired from Seven Rivers Country Club in Crystal River Florida. Al's real devotion though was to his loving wife Joan and family.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the James A. Haley Veterans hospital in Tampa for their compassion and care that they provided Al and his family during his last days on earth…
The family will receive friends Wednesday September 21st from 10:30am to 11:00am at Strickland Funeral Home, Crystal River. Interment with full military honors will follow at 12:30pm at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
