Martha Harriet Fearney Locke Obituary
Martha Harriet Fearney Locke was born May 25, 1924, in Boston, Massachusetts, and died July 21, 2015, in Crystal River, Florida. Her parents, Dr. Frank Albert Fearney and Martha Sandager Fearney; her brothers, Edward Maurice Fearney and Frank Joseph Fearney; her sister, Ella Louise Fearney Hultgren; and her husband, George Edward Locke preceded her in death. Martha grew up in Boston, Chillicothe, Ohio, and Indiana and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Purdue University after her honorable discharge, having served during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a Specialist Instructor in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. She worked as a radiology technician in a southern California hospital before opening a retail shoe store with her husband in Morro Bay, California, where she lived after retirement. She moved recently to Crystal River to be closer to her nieces and nephew. She enjoyed many activities, including travel, visiting with friends, service to her church, Meals on Wheels, and oil painting.
Beloved by all who knew her, she is survived by her two nieces, Martha Pilcher and Ann Paul; her nephew, Michael Fearney; her grandnieces, Kate Edmonds, Kelly Fearney, and Louise Pilcher; and grandnephews, Samuel Schnapf, Benjamin Schnapf, Albert Pilcher, and John Michael Fearney.
She will be buried next to her husband at the Morro Bay-Cayuncos Cemetery in California. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Meals on Wheels Morro Bay, 1001 Kennedy Way, Morro Bay, CA 93442 or the National Audubon Society, Coastal Islands Sanctuaries, 410 South Ware Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33619. Arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home and Crematory, Crystal River.
