Meda F. Smith Obituary
Meda F. Smith, 93, of Lecanto, FL passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, Lecanto, FL. Meda was born in Tampa, FL on October 10, 1923 to the late Theodore B. and Frances Sophelia (Timmerman) Flynt. A graduate of Hillsborough High School in 1941, she was married to her loving husband Roy V. Smith Jr. for 54 years before his passing on January 27, 1996. During their years in Tampa, Meda served as treasurer of University Christian Church for 6 years, sang in the choir, was leader of her daughters' Girl Scout troop for 9 years, and took fishing trips with her husband to Citrus County and out of state. In 1968 they relocated to Citrus County when they bought Trail's End Camp in Floral City and ran it for 18 years before retiring to Lake Hernando in Citrus County. Meda's hobbies included gardening, playing the piano, reading, and fishing with the Bass'n Gals women's fishing group, participating in tournaments locally and out of state. As a member of Ft. Cooper Baptist Church, Meda enjoyed singing in the choir and serving as Secretary/Treasurer of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class for many years.
Left to mourn Meda's passing are her daughters Christine Rushing and husband David, Winter Garden, FL, and Jewel Pontius and husband Michael, Dunnellon, FL,
5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband Roy, Meda was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Rene' Flynt, Sr., and sister Marjorie Flynt Bradford.
A Funeral Service for Meda is planned for Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM from the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Reverend Marne Palmani of Ft. Cooper Baptist Church and former pastor of Ft. Cooper Baptist Church David Maddox officiating. The family will receive friends in visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until the hour of service.
