Michael A. Byron, 66, of Crystal River, FL passed away October 17, 2016 under the loving care of his family and HPH Hospice.
He was born August 19, 1950 to Anthony and Dorothy Byron in New York City, NY. He impacted many others in his life. From the age of 15 he was a lifeguard for the New York City Parks Department. He continued lifeguarding during the summer months while working for the Citrus County School Board. He received his Master's Degree in Exceptional Student Education from C.W. Post in Long Island, New York. When he relocated to Florida he took a job at Homosassa Elementary School. He then taught at Crystal River Middle School. After 30 rewarding years he retired from teaching PE at Citrus Springs Middle School. He had a love for fishing. In 1998 he received his Captain's license. He eventually established Let's Go Fishin' Charters and created many memories sharing his passion with others. He was a fishing captain for 17 years and was a member of the Homosassa Guides Association.
In addition to fishing, he enjoyed camping, gardening, woodworking, swimming, and watching his grandchildren play sports. He also volunteered with the Florida Forest Service at the Withlacoochee State Forest.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Byron; children Matthew (Jennifer) Byron, and Megan (James) Pugliese; siblings Diane Logusch and Thomas (Vickie) Byron as well as 5 grandchildren Kylee, James, and Lanie Pugliese and Matthew and Olivia Byron. Family will receive friends from 3-4PM with a memorial service beginning at 4Pm with Father Johnson officiating at Brown Funeral Home & Crematory in Lecanto, FL.
In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations through a gofundme account towards a bench in memory of Captain Mike.
