Muriel E. Vebsky, 92, Inverness passed away March 27, 2017 at Crown Court Assisted Living Facility. Muriel was born on November 25, 1924 in Great Neck, NY to the late Arthur L. and Lillian (Russell) Smith and moved here in 1987 from Wantagh, NY. She was a member of St Margaret's Episcopal Church for over 30 years and was very active in the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) and The Order of The Daughters of The King (DOK).
Muriel was active for many years in Maine politics, serving as York County Committee Chairperson for the Democratic Party; she actively considered running for Congress in 1980. A writer of many short stories, Muriel was a published poet and the writer of several children's books, including "George Finds a Way" and "Beth's Own Star". Muriel was an active sewer and crochetier, she logged over 500 hours last year making handmade quilts, lap robes and afghans for the sick and shut-in.
Left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory is her son, Mark (Joan) Dryden, Hobe Sound, FL; her daughter, Joyce (Gene) Stevens, Wells, ME; step son, George Vebsky, Cedar Rapids, IA; step daughter, Peggy (Randall) Newton, DeSoto, KS; 1 brother, "George" Russell Smith, Corrina, ME; 1 sister, Clara Wright, Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.
Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, George Charles Vebsky, her infant son, John Robert Dryden; a daughter, Faith Vebsky; 1 brother, Arthur Smith, Jr.; 2 sisters, Luella Wolfe and Carol Robinson.
A Requiem Eucharist with Burial Office will be conducted on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM from St Margaret's Episcopal Church with Fr Eugene Reuman, Rector of St Margaret's, officiating. Committal services will follow in the church's memorial garden. A reception will follow in Rairdon Hall. Memorial gifts in Muriel's memory are being accepted by St Margaret's Episcopal Church, 114 N. Osceola Ave., Inverness FL 34450.
