To many locals, she will be remembered as the fun-loving spirit who loved to entertain at the Snowbird. However, to her family she was the heart and music of their ears.
Nancy Anita Worthington, 80, of Homosassa, Fla., passed away Nov. 12, 2012. She was born Dec. 13, 1931, in Crystal Falls, Michigan to Urho and Tunie Heino. Sixty-three years ago, on June 4, 1949, she married Richard James Worthington Sr., in Vulcan, Mich., and moved to Citrus County in 1975. Richard and Nancy soon opened the family owned and operated Snowbird restaurant in Homosassa, where she entertained her guests with the organ and accordion. She did not think anything of playing another song and inviting anyone and everyone to come in and visit, and have a bite to eat. Painting, singing, homemade pizzas and pasties were her perfection; however, her passion was her family. She loved the fact that all of her children lived within five minutes of her and could visit often. Nancy was proud of her large family as her love continuously multiplied.
In a letter she wrote to family and friends, she said "When you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a smile and welcome you home."
She is survived by her husband, Richard Worthington Sr. of Homosassa; five children, with four spouses; nine grandchildren with three spouses; and six great-grandchildren. Accompanying her husband is her daughter, Sharon Worthington; sons, Richard Worthington Jr. and wife Kathy, Rodney Worthington Sr. and wife Verna, Randy Worthington and wife Carol; daughter, Karen Whitelaw and husband David. Grandchildren are Richard Worthington III and wife Eryn, David Worthington, Stephanie Struble and husband Rex, Michael Worthington and fiancé Stacey Justice, Rodney Worthington Jr., Kimberly Nichter and husband Darren, Amanda Whitelaw, Jennifer Worthington and fiancé Ryan Downs, and Danielle Anita Whitelaw. Great-grandchildren are Alex, Cody and Cassie Struble, Elle Downs, Madison Nichter and Zackary Bruns.
Memorial will take place 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Wilder Funeral Home, 4890 South Suncoast Boulevard in Homosassa. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Celebration of her life will follow at the home of David and Karen Whitelaw. In Nancy's memory and in lieu of flowers, please go out and do something nice for someone!
