The Service of Remembrance for Mr. Norwood LeRoy Speary, age 90, of Homosassa, Fla., will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Homosassa Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes. Inurnment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial donations to Hospice of Citrus County. He was born July 14, 1923, in Marcus Hook, Pa., son of Roy and Selina (Millington) Speary. He died April 11, 2014, under the loving care of Hospice of Citrus County and his family. Mr. Speary was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II in both theaters of combat. He retired as a fire inspector for the city of St. Petersburg and moved to Homosassa in 1974. Mr. Speary was a member of First United Methodist Church, Homosassa.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Clara Evelyne Speary, Homosassa; a son, Kirk Roy Speary, Round Rock, Texas; two daughters, Sherry Lee Gianakas, Lake City, Fla., and Dareen Lee McCall, Jacksonville, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hooper Funeral Homes & Crematory.
