Paul Henry Wood Obituary
Paul Henry Wood, 91, of Crystal River, was peacefully promoted to Heaven at his home Tuesday, February 7, 2017 after a short illness.
He was born to Carl Grady and Carrie "Pat" Overton Wood on March 25, 1925, joining an older sister Marion Louise. The family moved from Arkansas to Inverness when he was just 6 months old. Until recent years, Paul met with his graduating class every year. Following graduation, He joined the Navy, then enjoyed a very active career in the merchant marines as a Ship's Officer/Radio Operator on Aviation Tankers. He enjoyed photography and one of his photographs was featured on the cover of a national magazine. Ever the adventurer, he enjoyed traveling the world until his whole world turned around when, on leave, he happened into "Miss Maudell's" This and That Store in Crystal River and met the shy and lovely Kathryn "Kitty" Hough, with whom he fell deeply in love! Married in 1956, they lived in bliss until her death in April of 2015. Paul was the City manager of Crystal River when Jodi was born, and had other interesting jobs like housepainting, crabbing, commercial fishing, and working at the Cape in the missile program. He was working at the Property Appraiser's office in Inverness when he was appointed by a congressman to become Crystal River's FIRST Rural Mail Carrier. They were both active members of the First Baptist Church of Crystal River, faithfully serving as a deacon and other positions, and she in the nursery, as long as they both were physically able. Prayer warriors until their deaths, Paul and Kitty are sorely missed here on earth, but are in their Eternal home with their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
They are survived by their one daughter, Jodi Wood Stevens (Bobby) of Crystal River, granddaughter Hannah Mohrenne (Mark) of Eustis, and one great-grandson Zakary Mohrenne.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday February 25th at 1:00 PM at Strickland Funeral Home, Crystal River. In lieu of flowers, they would like friends to consider donations to the First Baptist Church of Crystal River, or any Christ-Centered Organization that teaches the true Gospel.
