Richard "Dick" Mitchell of Inverness, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on October 30, 2016, with the love, comfort, and care of his family surrounding him. Born in Wayland, New York to Stephen and Beatrice Mitchell (Finch) he lived most of his life in Wayland, NY and Inverness, Florida.
Dick was a man's man. He loved being outdoors. On a normal day, you could find him in his shop, working on one of his many projects, or fixing something for someone in need. He was a kind man, with a caring and compassionate heart. He lived hard, he loved fierce and his infectious smile will indeed be missed.
Among his many passions were music - he loved to sing and play guitar, and enjoyed spending time with others who shared the same love in music that he had. He also loved boating, playing cards, and spending time with his family. A fan of racecars, Dick was involved at Citrus County Speedway for nearly
twenty-five years.
Dick loved his wife, Michele "Mickie", more than life itself; they would have been married fifty-three years next May. Their love was inspirational, for all who knew them. A wonderful family man, Dick was always expressing how proud he was of his five daughters.
Dick is survived by Mickie, five daughters: Gale Storm (Loren), Shelley Mitchell Kester (Dana), Denise Mitchell Barber, Angela Mitchell, and Jodi Mitchell-Keller; grandchildren: Angelica Patterson, Ashley List (Jason), Dana Kester II, Alisha Barber (Justin), Ashton Barber, Micky Barber, Ricky Mitchell (Deanna), Gregory Corne (Khyesha), Meghan Corne, Christina Cantwell, Savannah Cantwell, Austin Benoit; great-grandchildren: Lauren, Calloway, Jaydon, Delilah, Kolton, Kalon; brothers: Larry, Ronnie, and Ernie Mitchell; sisters: Linda DiSalvo, Sandy Emery, and Marcia Galton, many nieces and nephews, a host of friends including 2 furry friends - Maggie and Pup.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roger, Jerry, and Norb Mitchell and sisters Judy Mitchell, Sheryl McGinnis, Darlene Marble, and Carolyne Gruber.
Dick will be remembered as an excellent singer, coach, and encourager! Beloved husband, dad, gramps, papa, brother, uncle, friend - he will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. Rest easy sweet man.
