Richard Adam "Dick" Rase, 75, of Portsmouth, OH, formerly Wheelersburg, OH and Inverness, FL, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Hill View Retirement Center in Portsmouth. He was born June 27, 1941 in Powellsville, OH, a son of the late Graydon Wilbur and Agnes Ethel Knapp Rase.
Dick was a retired teacher, having worked at Green and Wheelersburg Schools in Scioto County, Ohio, and he taught middle school math in the Citrus County Schools, Inverness. He also coached high school basketball for ten years. He was the owner of the former Rase's Laundry Service and the co-owner of the former Rase's Radiator Shop of Portsmouth. A 1959 Wheelersburg High School graduate, Dick received a Bachelor of Science degree from Rio Grande (OH) College where he attended on a full basketball scholarship.
Dick was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Western Sun Masonic Lodge #91. He was also a former referee and president of the Southeastern Ohio Chapter Basketball Officials Association.
Surviving are his three children, Ginger L. Rase (Frank Osborne, Jr.) of Boynton Beach, FL, Jeffrey S. (Chinnetta) Rase and Julianne Rase, all of Wheelersburg; six grandchildren, Camden A. Miller, Cassidy J. Roney, Carson D. Roney, Adyson B. Rase, Gavin S. Rase and Claire Nicole Rase; a great-granddaughter, Stella J. Miller; his former wife, Lois Canary Rase of Wheelersburg; former son-in-law, David Roney; and his beloved beagle, Phoebe Anna.
His brother, Howard W. Rase, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Reverend Carl Beck officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Burial Park, Wheelersburg, at a later date.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Thursday. The Western Sun Masonic Lodge #91 will conduct a Masonic Service at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
