Rodney M. Cole of Beverly Hills, Florida, died February 9th, 2017. He was 84 years old. Rod was born December 13, 1932 in Emporia, Kansas. A retired university professor and creative soul, he constantly worked to further his talents and knowledge. He enjoyed reading, theater, music, fishing, photography, art, and storytelling.
Rodney was a kind, generous, supportive, and loving man with a razor sharp wit. He took great pride in his family, and would keep them on their toes with his endless supply of jokes. He was also an astute observer of politics, and one of his great joys was to write letters to the Citrus County Chronicle and see them published.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Lois W. Cole of Florida; his brother Charles Cole of Vermont; his daughter & son-in-law Sarah Cole and Paul Hoogeveen of Massachusetts; his daughter Phyllis Cole of Massachusetts; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service is tentatively planned for March (date to be announced), to be held at the Nature Coast Universalist Unitarian Church in Hernando, Florida. In lieu of flowers, Rodney requested that donations be made to the Marching Pride Scholars Program of Kansas State University (
