Dr. Roger L. Strong Obituary
Dr. Roger L. Strong, 81, passed away with his loving wife, Beverly by his side on June 12, 2017. He was born on May 22, 1936 in Onsted, Michigan to the late Ronald and Mildred Strong. He is preceded in death by his son Todd Strong and brother, Jack Strong. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Beverly Strong, five children; Kevin Strong, David Strong, Edward (Angela) Easterwood, Timothy Easterwood, and Rachelle (Thomas) Carlson and one sister, Lela Tiede. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Faith, Meaghan (Marc), Thomas (Anita), Jason, Jessica and McKenzie and three great grandchildren, Saira, Sebastian and Abigail.
Roger was a flight mechanic in the US Marine Corps leaving in 1956 to enter Eastern Michigan University where he received his Bachelors of Arts. He then enrolled at The University of Michigan where he received his Masters of Art in Mathematics and his Doctor of Philosophy. Roger taught in the Talented and Gifted program in the Livonia Public School System. He was an associate professor of Mathematics at the University of Michigan in Dearborn. He then moved to South Carolina where he was a professor of Mathematics at Francis Marion University. Upon retiring in 1998, he moved to Crystal River, Florida.
Roger enjoyed playing golf, bird watching, fishing and building bird houses. He was a member of the ACLU, the 7 Rivers Golf Club and the Country Club of South Carolina.
He was loved by his family and will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Until we meet again….
