Rossie M. Atkins-Joyner peacefully passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017 at her home. She was born on February 15, 1951 in Hernando, FL to Frank and Jewell Atkins. Rossie attended Booker T. Washington School in Inverness, FL. She married Douglas Joyner, Sr. on September 13, 1974. Rossie bought to the union two beautiful children. Rossie and Douglas family grew to have a total of seven children.
Later in life, Rossie continued her education and received her Bachelor's degree from the University of South Florida and her Master's Degree from National Louise University. She then pursued her life long calling of teaching, at Citrus Springs Middle School, where she taught for 16 years. Rossie was an active member in her community. She devoted her time to many organizations and served many throughout Citrus County.
Preceding her in death: son, Cedric Joyner, sister, Geraldine Shaw; survivors include her husband, Douglas Joyner, Sr., daughter, Samantha Churchwell, sons; Frank (Nikki) Churchwell, Douglas Joyner, Jr., Terrence Joyner, Shohn Joyner, Jerimee (Rebecca) Joyner; parents, Frank and Jewell Atkins; siblings, Frankie Mae (Dennis) Handsborough, Mae Helen Cofer; brother-in-law, Albert Shaw.
A wake will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 5-7:00PM at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 2105 N Georgia RD, Crystal River, FL. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00Am at Citrus Springs Middle School, 150 W Citrus Springs Blvd., Citrus Springs, FL.
