April 4, 1948 – February 20, 2016
Roy Anders Anderson, 67, a resident of Beverly Hills, Florida, passed away February 20, 2016, at home surrounded by his family following an extended illness.
Roy was a 1970 graduate of the State University of New York Maritime College at Fort Schuyler in Nuclear Engineering. Additionally, he earned an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnics Institute in 1982. Roy also graduated from the General Electric General Management School and Commanding Officer School – Naval Reactors.
Roy served in numerous senior leadership positions in the nuclear and electric utility industry.
Roy began his working life with the General Electric Company, as a reactor operator in the Naval Nuclear training program. During his 16 years with GE he was in several positions through the Naval Nuclear program. Later he was the Manager, Southern Nuclear Construction Services.
After leaving GE, Roy worked at Boston Edison as the Plant Manager of the Pilgrim Nuclear Plant, Vice President of Nuclear Operations and Senior VP – Nuclear. Roy moved to North Carolina in 1992 and worked for Carolina Power and Light Company where he led the repair of the troubled Brunswick Nuclear Plant which went on to achieve a world record for flawless performance. While at CP&L, Roy additionally served as both the VP of Fossil Generation and Sr. VP of Customer Services.
In 1997 Roy moved to Florida where he served as Sr. VP of Nuclear Generation and Sr. VP of Energy Supply with Florida Power Corporation. Roy always enjoyed the people and climate of Florida.
Roy also worked for Nuclear Management Company and PSEG in executive positions.
Roy completed his professional career while serving as Executive Director and Chief Nuclear Officer of British Energy in London, England.
In retirement, Roy returned to Florida where he enjoyed his passion for antique British automobiles, especially prewar MG's.
Roy is remembered for his devotion to his family and close friends, plus his unique gift of leadership and quick wit. Roy possessed the gift of being able to inspire others to work hard, do their best and achieve great success. He greatly enjoyed working closely with hundreds of dedicated power plant employees.
Roy and his high school sweetheart, JoAnn, shared 45 years of marriage. They worked as a close team in Roy's various professional roles. In addition to his dedicated wife, Roy is survived by his daughter, Emily Ann Anderson of New York City.
Roy's father, John, predeceased him, but he is survived by his mother J. Margaret Anderson of Ballston Spa, NY, his brother Michael J. Anderson of Middle Grove, NY and a sister, Carol E. Kuperman of Port Jervis, NY. Roy is survived by a niece, Kristiana L. Murray of Oneonta, NY and nephews Jonathan A. Anderson of Beverly Hills, FL and Michael R. Anderson of Malta, NY.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of the Mayo Clinic, Hospice and many dedicated caregivers who assisted him in his years of declining health.
Private Cremation will take place under the direction of Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in Lecanto, FL.
