Mr. Roy Eldon Carr passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at 10:40 a.m. He was a vital member of the Citrus County community and much beloved. If you bought a fresh local grown Christmas tree it is likely you bought it at Carr's Tree Farm.
He is survived by his wife, Jane B. Carr; his son, Roy E. (Melissa) Carr Jr. of Lecanto; and daughter, Jennifer L. (Jonathan D.) Stuckert of Woodstock, Ga.
Mr. Carr was born in Takoma Park, Maryland, Feb. 14, 1941, and lived there the majority of his childhood. In 1961 he moved to Coco, Fla., where he met his beloved wife Jane Smith, whom he married in 1965. They were happily married for the last 48 years. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1971 as a chemical engineer, B.S.Che.E and then moved to Citrus County in 1971. He was a retired chemical engineer from Florida Power Corporation, a retired Christmas tree farmer, and a professional bird dog trainer. He served as a Citrus County's Regional Science fair judge for 25+ years. He was an avid quail and turkey hunter and served in local chapters in various officer positions. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a plank owner of the USS Nathan Hale SSBN623 and also served on the submarines Sargo and Trigger. He was a founding member of the Florida and National Christmas Tree Associations and held various offices in the local National Wild Turkey Federation and Quail Unlimited Chapters. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a member of Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and on various mission teams.
His later years were blessed by three grandsons, William G. (7) and Jackson D. Stuckert (5) and Roy E. Carr III (6). Mr. Carr is also survived by his brother Wayne A. (Donna) Carr of Prince Fredrick, Md.; and sisters, Paulette (Herbert) Reed of Davidson, Md., and Linda (Bob) Harrington of Locust Grove, Va.
Visitation will be at Brown Funeral Home in Lecanto, Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church, 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, with lunch following and then a military burial at the National Military Cemetery in Bushnell. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church and Seven Rivers Christian School, 4221 Gulf-to-Lake Hwy, Lecanto, FL 34461. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory, Lecanto.
