Sharon Louise Saffin Manning, 69 of Homosassa, FL died peacefully on January 30, 2016 under the care of Haven House Hospice, Gainesville, FL.
She was born in Waterville, ME on August 7, 1946. Sharon is survived by a son, Andrew John Rutherford, siblings Mary Ellen Worden, Concord, NC; Kathleen Schultz, Great Falls, MT; Ronald Saffin (Vicki) of Marco Island, FL; Rodger Saffin (Cheryl) of Naples, FL; grandchildren Taylor Rutherford and Ayden Rutherford of Victoria, TX; step-grandchildren Luke and Adrianna Lansing and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents Ernest R. Saffin and Hilda M. Bristol Saffin, a sister Jacqueline Cook, a brother James Saffin, a husband, John Rutherford and a husband James Manning.
Sharon enjoyed singing in the choir at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Crystal River and fellowship with the congregation there as well as her former church in Oswego, NY.
Her greatest joy was in spending time with her grandchildren Taylor and Ayden. She visited them in Texas in August 2015 and her sister Kathleen in Great Falls, MT in July. She traveled to visit family and friends at every opportunity.
Sharon graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and from Ogdensburg Business School in 1963 in New York State. She was employed in clerical/administrative positions at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY; NYS Corrections facilities and the Head Start Program in Oswego, NY. Sharon was employed by the US Postal Service for 30 years in Washington, DC, Syracuse, NY and Sacramento, CA.
The family expresses their appreciation to staff of UF Shands Cancer Hospital, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and to ET York Haven Hospice Care Center in Gainesville for the compassionate loving care received by Sharon.
A celebration of Sharon's life will be held Sunday, February 14, 2016, 3:00 p.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1070 N. Suncoast Blvd. Crystal River, FL 34429. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church or to ET York Haven Hospice Care Center, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
