Una Marjorie Gwendolyn (Rickford) Carto Obituary
Una Marjorie Gwendolyn Carto (nee Rickford) died on Aug. 2, 2016, at Brentwood Health and Rehab Center. She was born on April 25, 1917, in Georgetown, Guyana, South America, to the late Donald and Millicent Rickford.
In October 1944, she married John Carto, and from this union, produced six children. Una lived in Guyana until 1974 when she migrated to the United States and lived with her daughter Joy until the time of her death.
She was active in the Dorcas club in Guyana and continued in the same activity for many years at the First Presbyterian Church of Crystal River. She enjoyed reading, which she did voraciously. She also loved to sew and was an excellent seamstress. Many family members and friends can testify that she never forgot a birthday or special occasion; they would be sure of receiving a card from her.
She was preceded in death by her son David in 1988 and her husband John in 2006. Left to mourn her loss are her children: Joy Andrews and her husband James; John (Storm) and his wife Grace; Colin and Areta; Jacqueline Hamilton and Ian and his wife Dulcie; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; sister Jean Alice Rickford; and numerous nieces and nephews, family members and friends.
Funeral services for Una will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016, at 11 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church of Crystal River. Visitation at church is from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the Fountains memorial park cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Crystal River's Food Pantry and/or the Dorcas Circle, 1501 SE U.S. 19, Crystal River, FL 34429. Strickland Funeral Home with Crematory of Crystal River is in charge of arrangements.
