Vivian J. Arkens, 89, of Homosassa, FL, passed away on Thurs., Sept. 24, 2015, at Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast Hospice House, Lecanto, FL.
Vivian was born Sept. 14, 1926, to John and Eleanora (Myrvall) Lindquist in Chicago and moved to Michigan, with her parents, at a young age. It was there that she met her future husband, The Late Joseph P. Arkens. It was during WWII, while Joseph was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps at MacDill AFB, when Vivian left Michigan in 1943 to first travel to Florida.
They were married soon after and enjoyed 71 years of marriage until his passing on Dec. 29, 2014. Besides being a wife and mother, Vivian participated in several occupations with her husband, including owning their own automobile service station and detailing shop, as well as farming in Bark River, Michigan. Vivian ultimately retired as an auto detailer with Town and Country Motors in Escanaba, Michigan. She began snowbirding in Florida over 20 years ago and permanently moved here in 2000. Vivian was a member of First Christian Church of Homosassa and is survived by her three children: Larry Arkens (wife Glenna) of Escanaba, MI; Carole Charles (husband Raymond) of Appleton, WI; and Thomas Arkens (wife Laurie) of Neenah; grandson Brian Arkens of Neenah, WI; and granddaughter Madalynn Arkens of Madison, WI. Vivian was also preceded in death by her brother, Victor Lindquist of River Falls, WI.
