William "Bill" Gearhart Obituary
William C. "Bill" Gearhart, Jr., age 91, of Inverness, Florida died peacefully in his family home on August 4, 2016. Born in Johnston, Pennsylvania on June 21, 1925 to the late William and Hazel Wolstoncroft Gearhart. Bill married and brought his English WWII Bride, Lillian Peggy, to Miami, Florida in 1947 where together they raised four children. Following a long and fulfilling career of more than 35 years with Eastern Airlines as the Manager of aircraft maintenance and FAA liaison, he retired and together Bill and Peg moved to Central Florida. During his early retirement years, he and Peg traveled the world. Bill was exceedingly proud and loved to tell stories of his experiences and adventures during his service to the country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He served as a B17 Mechanic at Honington Air Force Base near Cambridge, England. He met the love of his life and wife of 62 years, the late Lilian Peggy Davies, while in England.
Bill is survived by his four children: Shirley and Jesse Pruitt of Cocoa, Florida; Bob and Coleda Gearhart of Clinton, Connecticut; Sharon and David Churchill of Brunswick, Ohio, and Bill and Donna Gearhart of Jupiter, Florida. His legacy includes seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: Dr. Peter and Natalie Passaro and their son Isaac of Brighton, England; Erik and Karen Passaro and their children Dakota and Erik of Cummings, GA; Tiffani Passaro of Atlanta, GA; Amy and Chris Ferraro and their children Lily and Elly of Westbrook, CT; Air Force Major Robert and Heather Gearhart and their son Jayson of Warwick, RI; Marie and Air Force Major Dr. Mark Albright and their children Mckenna and Maddox of San Antonio, TX; Ken and Michelle Churchill and their son Connor of Strongsville, Ohio. He is also survived by his sister, Lettie Ozaki and her family in Atlanta, GA.
Private cremation arrangements will take place under the direction of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness. William will be laid to rest with his beloved Peggy at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at a later date. The family will gather in Celebration of his Love and Life in December.
