William W. Wachtl, 93, of Homosassa, FL died on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 in Hernando County at Oak Hill Hospital. He was born on June 30, 1923 in Mosinee, Wisconsin to Henry and Mabel Wachtl.
After serving in the Navy during World War II, he earned his Masters of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He married Mildred Bowar in 1949 who predeceased him in May, 2009.
He worked in the Aerospace field employed first by NASA, then Martin Marietta and then the isotopes division of Teledyne. One of his projects was working on the thermonuclear generator for the Pioneer 10 and 11 space programs (Jupiter Satellite). He was also a very active member of the Exchange Club of Towson, MD where he was in charge of building a float for the 1976 Bicentennial celebrations.
He retired in Baltimore, Maryland in 1983, then moved to Homosassa where he and his wife enjoyed golf, bridge and socializing with friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Denise of Homosassa, his son Dave and his wife Tammy of Morrison, Colorado and three grandchildren, Taylor, David and Chris. A private family gathering will take place at a future time.
