William Wescott Obituary
Maj. William J. Wescott, U.S.M.C. (Ret), 89, of Inverness, FL. passed away July 31, 2017 under the care of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast in Lecanto, FL. He was born in Ft. Edward, NY on March 17, 1928 to the late Harold C. and Mabel E. (Pecue) Wescott. William served his country honorably, retiring from the U.S. Marine Corp after 22 years of exemplary service. He served in both the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam Conflict, receiving the Bronze Star for his service in Viet Nam. Afterwards, he had a full career as a real estate broker for 25 years and, with his wife Elizabeth, owned and operated Wescott Realty in Orlando and Winter Garden, FL. William arrived in this area area 2004, coming from Merritt Island, FL. He was a Baptist by faith, and enjoyed fishing and golfing. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Elizabeth A. Wescott. Other survivors include his children, Gerald Wescott of Cocoa, FL, John Wescott and his wife Karen of Merritt Island, Barbara Schmitt and her husband Tom of Atlanta, GA, and Janet Kendrick and her husband Tim of Clermont, FL; and sister Mary E. Jordan and her husband Lou of Palm Beach Gardens, FL.; and step-sons James R. and Daniel Cole. 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald P. Wescott; and 4 brothers, Gerald, Harold, James and Raymond Wescott. Graveside services with military honors are scheduled for Friday, August 11, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. The procession to the cemetery will depart the funeral home promptly at 10:00 A.M. All friends are invited to attend. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness.
