William Arnold Shipp Jr., 88, passed away peacefully Feb. 13, 2014, at home with his family surrounding him with their love. He was born July 6, 1925, in Nocatee, Fla., to Arnold and Pauline Waldron Shipp. He was the oldest of nine children.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Wayne Shipp; his daughter, Susan Lee Shipp; grandson, Gary William Shipp; his parents; two brothers, Johnny and Roy Shipp; three sisters, Jacqueline Shipp, Faye Metz and Lillian Stokes.
Bill was a Navy veteran, serving his country during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific from 1943 through 1946. He joined the Navy during his senior year at Citrus High School. Although he later received his GED, in 2006 he was awarded his Citrus High School diploma. In 1981 he retired from Pinellas County, where he was an assistant county engineer, and moved home to Citrus County.
He was ordained a deacon at 30th Avenue Baptist Church in 1959, where he served faithfully, teaching Sunday school and serving wherever there was a need. Bill and Juanita traveled extensively to all 50 states, most of the National Parks, many foreign countries and the Holy Land three times. They walked where Jesus walked and visited the tomb where he was laid and arose to fulfill the scripture "He is Alive" Matthew 28: 6-7. He was a member of Ft. Cooper Baptist Church for the past 33 years were he continued to serve and teach and was honored Deacon Emeritus. Bill read his Bible every day and for 22 years read it through each year.
Bill and Juanita were married in Oxford, on Easter Sunday, March 16, 1948, and have always felt blessed and that God is so good.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Stokes Shipp; daughter, Donna Beebe and husband Jim of Floral City; daughter-in-law, Kathy Shipp (Bill) Foley; brother, Walter Shipp, and sisters, Betty Dillinger and Pam (Tommy) Meadows; grandchildren, Jimmy (Carla) Beebe, Billy (Jen) Beebe, Susan Cannon, Brandi Bescher, Mike (Lindsey) Bescher, Missy (Matt) Brannen, Whitney (Blaine) Wright, and Dakota (Kelsey) Shipp; great-grandchildren, Matt, Kristen, Alyson, Ashley, Brandon, Bridget, Alexis, Nolan, Hailey, Houston, Weston, Addison, Kamryn, Kelsey, Kayton, Kynleigh, Austin, Aleyah, and Elijah; one great-great-granddaughter, Kylie.
Funeral services for Bill will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, from the Ft. Cooper Baptist Church with Pastor Marne Palmani and Pastor Dave Maddox officiating. Interment will follow at the Hills of Rest Cemetery in Floral City. Friends may greet the family at church on Monday from 2 p.m., until service time. Memorials are requested to Hospice of Citrus Co. or Ft. Cooper Baptist Church Mission Fund. Chas E. Davis Funeral Home is serving the family.
