Edith Sellers Nyegard, 90, of Crystal River, Fla., died Saturday March 29, 2014, under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County. She was born May 14, 1923, to William and Mary (Rouse) Sellers in the hills of Birmingham, Ala. She was orphaned at the age of five and spent her childhood fighting like many others to survive the depression. Despite the hard and hungry times she managed to graduate from Shades Cohabba High School and enlist in the U.S. Coast Guard.

There she met her late husband, Larry. They spent 65 years together, 20 of which were in the Crystal River area. She was proud of her time she spent helping the war effort. She bore five children, Sandra, Mary, Lauren Larry Jr., and James and is survived by three. She has 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She survived cancer, heart attacks and a stroke that left her with the beginning stages of dementia. She still gave all she had to her family and friends up to the end of her life. We lovingly called her the "Timex Lady." She was our mother and she will be greatly missed.
Private arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home and Crematory of Crystal River.
