John R. "Johnny 99" Sowell, age 50, died April 26, 2014, at Citrus Memorial hospital. Johnny was born May 3, 1963, in Pinellas Park, Fla., to Bernard and Memory Jo (O'Neil) Sowell.
The Guest Book is expired.
He was the owner/operator of his own commercial trucking business. Johnny enjoyed fishing, but his real passion was race car driving, and he was a favorite Figure-8 driver at the Citrus County Speedway for many years in Car No. 99, and according to his family, the "craziest driver" as well.
Johnny will be missed by his life partner June Hinds; son Dakota Sowell, Lake City, Fla.; granddaughters Mariah Marie Sowell and Blakely Ann Sowell; his father Bernie Sowell and his companion Linda Black; stepson Travis Hinds; stepdaughter Tara Hinds; brothers Jimmy and Ricky Sowell; sisters Glenda A. Massey and husband Scott Massey, Marla Hoffman and Shelly Sowell; and last, but certainly not least, by his beloved dog Winston.
A celebration of life and tribute to Johnny's life will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home. The family invites friends to join them for a time of visitation from 2 p.m. until the hour of service. Please consider donations to Hospice of Citrus County, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464 in lieu of flowers.
