Ellen Pistoll, 83, Inverness, died July 15, 2014, under the care of Hospice of Citrus County. Ellen and her twin brother, Robert, were born Feb. 13, 1931, in Nielston, Scotland, to Allan Robert and Ellen Pollock. Sadly, her mother died during childbirth and she was raised by her Aunt Polly, her mother's sister. Ellen's father had been badly injured during World War I, having lost a leg in battle, and he died when Ellen was just 13. After her father's death, she and her siblings were lovingly cared for by their Aunt Polly and Uncle Jimmy, who raised the children as their own. Ellen received her registered nurse degree and became matron and director of nursing at Victoria Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland, where she worked for over 30 years. She was highly thought of and much-loved by her staff and patients. She enjoyed traveling and visited many countries, including India, Australia and the Holy Land. Her love of travel led to her accompanying the Phoenix Choir to America, where she met her future husband, Heinz Pistoll. They were later married and enjoyed 24 very happy years together until his death on June 20, 2014. After being a winter visitor from Washington state for 20 years, she and Heinz relocated permanently to Florida, where she was very involved in the Inverness Garden Club and First Presbyterian Church.
The Guest Book is expired.
Left to cherish her memory is her twin brother Robert and his wife Irene; her brother-in-law Tommy Pattison; her cousin Nan Russell; Margaret and Janie of Scotland; Heinz's children Carl Silski, Ohio, Larry Pistoll, Washington, and Lynn Pistoll, New Zealand; Linda Tuttle, Washington; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Jemina Pattison and Barbara Pollock.
A celebration and tribute to Ellen's life will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church of Inverness. The family wishes to thank the minister and church for their spiritual comfort and kindness and her neighbors and friends for their loving support of Ellen during this sad time. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Citrus County or The Path of Citrus County.
