The Guest Book is expired.
At age 7, David moved to Floral City. After high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served a four-year tour in aviation support, earning an honorable discharge. David then attended Central Florida Junior College in Ocala, earned an Associate of Arts degree, and was pleased to be a member of the second graduating class. His years playing high school football had introduced him to his beloved University of Florida, and a close family friend suggested that he pursue a degree in accounting. David then moved to Gainesville, thoroughly enjoyed Gator football, and earned a Bachelor of Science in his chosen field.
During those college years, David married the love of his life, Janet Shelton, and shortly after graduation, a job offer took them to Fort Myers. He attained his CPA and practiced public accounting for over 40 years. David was an active member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, participated in service groups including Kiwanis and Optimist, and loved boating and the beach.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Janet; son John (Stephanie); daughter Patti Blanchard (Bobby); "his boys," adoring grandsons Clayton Foshee, Robert "Bo" Blanchard and Jacob Blanchard; brother Richard; nephews Ray "Junior" (Barbara) and Arnold (Jami) Pumphrey; and niece Linda Pumphrey Smith; his wife's parents, Lloyd and Virginia Shelton; her sisters Faye (Bill) VanHook, Gaye Stokes; two nieces and three nephews. A celebration of life and resurrection will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 4141 Deleon St. in Fort Myers. Interment will be in Floral City at a later date. Please direct any memorial donations to Hope Hospice or Wesley Memorial.
