GEIER

Gabriele B. Geier (nee Brougier), age 94, died peacefully on Sunday January 6, 2013, in Munich, Germany. She was born in Austria, the daughter of Rudolph Brougier and Gabriele Deuticke, and married Paul Esselborn Geier of Cincinnati in 1949. Paul had a distinguished career in the U.S. Foreign Service. Paul and Gabriele were inveterate, curious and well-informed world travelers. Following retirement, they resided primarily in Italy where they were actively involved in education and the arts, particularly with Villa I Tatti, the Renaissance study center of Harvard University. While Paul died in 1981, Gabriele retained a keen interest in Villa I Tatti as well as in classical music and numerous other forms of art and aesthetics. Gabriele lived in Europe throughout the remainder of her life but enjoyed coming to visit her relatives, who admired her greatly, in Cincinnati and elsewhere in the U.S. Services were held in Breitbrunn um Chiemsee, Germany on January 15.
