Gerald J., beloved husband of Nancy K. DeBrunner (nee Schlie), died peacefully on March 19, 2013 at Hospice of Cincinnati following a brief illness, surrounded by his family. Dear father of Anne (Robert) Goad, David (Mary) DeBrunner, Katharine (Michael) O'Grady, Mark (Sarah) DeBrunner and Mary (fiancé Joshua Markou) DeBrunner; dedicated brother of R. Thomas (Ginny) DeBrunner and Virginia (the late William) Gerardino and the late Marjorie (John) Thamann and Robert (Mary) DeBrunner; and loving grandfather to 13 grandchildren; Alexis, Nicholas, Cameron, Mollie, Andrew, Jack, Baird, Lucy, Matthew, Molly, Danny, Owen and Eli. A devout Catholic and family man, Gerald was very active in his parish and community and devoted his time and energy to mentoring young students and contributing to various organizations and charities. Formerly Vice Chairman and Group Managing Partner of the leading global accounting firm Deloitte, Gerald spent the majority of his retirement participating on boards and in leadership positions for organizations such as Xavier University, Ursuline Academy, Cincinnati Downtown Council, Episcopal Retirement Homes and Purcell Marian High School. He was also an active member of Kenwood Country Club, the Queen City Club and the Commonwealth Club. An avid golfer and Cincinnati sports fan, he found joy in taking his children and grandchildren to various sporting events over the years. Recognized for his contributions to educational and community endeavors, Gerald was previously a chair of the United Way Tocqueville Society. He was also honored by Xavier University with its Distinguished Alumnus Award and inducted into the Williams College of Business Alumni Hall of Fame. The Xavier Executives-in-Residence Program, originally named in his honor, continues to provide students with the rare opportunity to get career advice and mentorship from experienced executives. He was also a distinguished alumnus of Purcell Marian High School, where he remained active. His life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 23, 2013 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at Good Shepherd Church, 8815 E. Kemper Rd, Montgomery Ohio 45249. The visitation will take place before Mass from 9:00am-10:30am.
