TUERCK

Helen Hopple Bertsch Tuerck was born in Brooklyn, NY. on October 22, 1912 and died on May 2, 2014 in Nampa, Idaho at the age of 101. While an infant, Helen's parents, Howard Hopple and Emma Dorothy (Winkler) Hopple moved to the Ohio valley where her twin brothers, Andrew and Roland Hopple, and her sister Dorothy Hopple (Buchholtz) were born. Helen grew up in College Hill, in Cincinnati, attended Hughes High School, and graduated from the University of Cincinnati ('34) with a BA in Early Childhood Education. She married William F. Bertsch in 1934 and in 1946 their daughter Barbara ('Barbie') Jane Bertsch was born. William died in 1957 and Helen began an exemplary career as a second grade teacher which she continued for many years. Helen then married Robert (Bob) Tuerck in 1964 and they moved to southern Florida. They took many vacations to the tropics and loved hosting their children's growing families at their beautiful Florida home. Robert was a pharmacist and Helen continued with her love of teaching second grade. Robert died in 1987. Helen remained in Deerfield Beach, FL. being actively involved in the First Presbyterian Church of Pompano Beach. She enjoyed several cruises with close friends and relatives. Following a short stay at John Knox Retirement Village, she moved to Idaho to be close to her stepdaughter, Barbara Rau and her husband Don and their family in Idaho. Helen was well served by the caregivers at Grace Assisted Living in Nampa for her final years of life. Helen was an avid reader, loved words, and used impeccable grammar. She was a collector of beautiful antique glassware and had a penchant for colorful shoes with snazzy outfits and purses to match.
