Fr. Jack MATTSCHECK(1926 - 2014)



MATTSCHECK

Rev. John Joseph "Fr. Jack", Ordained to the Priesthood, May 30, 1953, beloved son of the late Joseph John and Hilda Mattscheck, brother of the late Rosemary (the late Jack) Lehan, devoted uncle of Mary Jo Lehan, Marcia (Dave) Luecke, the late Therese (Robert "Doc") Dochterman and the late Tim (Judy) Lehan, great uncle of Jennifer, Katherine and Christopher Lehan, Anna, Brigit and Noah Luecke. Died, Thursday, May 29, 2014 age 87. After ordination, Fr Jack taught at Elder High School and was responsible for the formation of the Guidance Department. He was an associate at St James, White Oak and St Vivian. He returned to the St Gregory Seminary to teach and train young men to become good and faithful priests. He served as an associate at St Bernard, Winton Place and St Joseph, North Bend. He was assigned as the Pastor of St Ann Church in Williamsburg. He moved to Mount St Mary's Seminary and served as the Dean of Students and the Spiritual Director. Before Retirement, he served as Pastor at St Theresa the Little Flower Church, and was an associate at St Ignatius. After retirement, he continued to serve at St Catharine of Siena and St. Bernard, Taylor's Creek. He continued to celebrate Mass with the patients and staff in many of the area nursing homes. Reception of the Body Ceremony, Wednesday, June 4, 2014, 4:30 PM, St Martin of Tours Church, Cheviot. Visitation will continue in church until 8 PM. Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, June 5, 11 AM. Most Rev. Dennis M. Schnurr, Archbishop of Cincinnati, presiding. Burial to follow in St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, The Lehan Family, suggests memorial donations for the Education of Priests be directed to the Athenaeum of Ohio, Mount St. Mary's Seminary of the West, 6616 Beechmont Ave., Cincinnati (45230).
