Jim Kocher, 91, beloved husband of the late Betty (Morrissey) Kocher, died Sunday, February 17, 2013.
Born and raised in Bellevue, Kentucky on December 5, 1921 to George and Lillian Kocher, he graduated from Newport Catholic High School in 1939 and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Physics from Villa Madonna College. He then joined the Air Force and served as a pilot during World War II
. After the war, Jim met and married the love of his life, Betty Morrissey, his wife of 40 years.
He retired from the John R. Greene Company, was the maitre d for 20 years at the Clubhouse at Turfway Racing Club, and delivered Meals on Wheels in Newport for many years. Jim went on to usher for the Reds, Bengals, UC Bearcats football and basketball, hockey and wrestling games. In fact, he was recognized by the Reds organization as the oldest member of the ushering staff. In October 2012, Channel 12 did a story about his twenty year history with the team. He loved his work, and the people he served. Jim will be sorely missed by his co- workers and Reds' patrons. In addition, he ushered concerts at the Cincinnati US Bank Arena.
He also belonged to the Newport branch of the Knights of Columbus, and was co-chair of the Newport Catholic Scholarship fund. Jim liked to keep busy, and was involved in numerous organizations and activities, including the Flying Octogenarians.
He was the son-in-law of the late Hazel and Steve Morrissey, nephew to the late Sis and Earl Trautman, and cousin to Patsy (Jim) Moeller and the Schroeder family. He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Sue (Tom) Breving, Sally Kocher (Joe) Miller, Anne (Andy) Livingston, his grandchildren, Joel (Maryanne Tholany) Breving, Maggie Breving, Andy (Yanik) Breving, Bette Miller, Steve Miller, Greg Miller, Jenny Miller, Andrea (Mike) Liptak, Alaine Livingston, great-granddaughter, Jane Liptak, sister-in-law, Peggy (the late Homer, Whit) Whitley, Margaret Nichols, and many nieces and nephews.
Jim donated his body to UC Medical School. There will be a Memorial Visitation at St. Catherine's Church, Ft. Thomas on Wednesday, February 20, from 11:00-12:00 PM with Mass following at Noon. Refreshments to follow in the St. Catherine's Church hall located at 1893 N. Ft. Thomas Ave., Ft. Thomas.
