Louise (Garman) CURLIS


Louise (nee Garman), age 102, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at SEM Haven in Milford, Ohio. Born Flora Louise Garman in Sinking Spring, Ohio, on Jan. 4, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Carrie (nee Lisby) Garman. She is survived by her daughter Sharon (Robert) Leopold, grandchildren Nathaniel Leopold, Matthew Leopold, and Kate (Adam) Wilson. She is also survived by her two great granddaughters Carmen Marie Leopold and Ava Louise Leopold, and dozens of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Mrs. Curlis was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph J. Curlis, three brothers, Clarence Carlton, Glenn Ellsworth and Raymond Garman, and three sisters, Faye Hayes, Fairy Garman and Gladys Reed. Mrs. Curlis was a school teacher, starting her career in a one-room school house in Marathon, Ohio, and finished her forty year career teaching in the Milford School district. She was a member in the Order of the Eastern Star, having been awarded her 75 year pin from the Linden Chapter in 2011. During her lifetime she was active in many professional and civic organizations. Visitation will be Monday, March 24th, 9-11 am, with a service of Celebration at 11 am, all at the Milford First United Methodist Church, 541 Main St, Milford, OH 45150. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the Milford Public Library, 19 Water St, Milford, OH, Milford First United Methodist Church, 541 Main St, Milford, or the Greater Milford Area Historical Society, Promont House Museum, 906 Main St, Milford.
