Robert W. CRAIGO(1928 - 2013)



CRAIGO

Robert (Bob) W., age 85 of Pierce Township, Ohio passed away September 15, 2013 at Hospice of Cincinnati, due to complications of pneumonia. He was born June 27, 1928 in Smithers, West Virginia, a son of the late Romie F. and Elva (Pell) Craigo. He graduated from Gauley Bridge High School in WV. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the end of World War II and the beginning of the Korean War. He had been commissioned to Officer's Candidate School but declined to return home and enter college. Bob attended Marshall University in Huntington, WV and graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology in Montgomery, WV. Attended the University of Maryland and received his Master Degree from the University of Cincinnati. He taught at Sherwood High School, Olney, Maryland, Fayetteville High School, WV, Lyon Jr. High and Withrow High School, Cincinnati, OH. He was one of the first of the area's educators to recognize the potential of technical education when he joined the staff of the Cincinnati Cooperative School of Technology and continued his dedicated service of the school for eighteen years. He held various positions at the college, including instructor, coordinator, and Dean of the Engineering Department. In all of his professional teaching career his students always came first and he always challenged his students to attain their goals. Bob had a sense of humor and a positive attitude. He was a Winner who always said "It May be Difficult but it is Possible". He was a Winner who saw a green near every sand trap. In his private life he enjoyed gardening and farming and was passionate about sports. He loved the Cincinnati Reds and West Virginia University. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Randy Craigo, and a brother, Kenneth Craigo. He married the former Vera Halsey on December 15, 1950. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Steven Craigo of Pierce Township, daughter-in-law, Angie Craigo, Cincinnati, OH, daughter-in-law, Diana Adkins, Cincinnati, granddaughter, Randal Layton, Ely, NV, Heather McCabe, Dayton, OH, grandson, Gary Wayne Adkins, Cincinnati, Four great grandchildren: William Arias and Chole Layton, Ely, NV, Deanna Elam and Haley McCabe, Dayton, OH. Sisters, Garnet Smith, Leesburg, FL, Ruth Ballard, Boomer, WV. Many nieces and nephews. Visitation, E.C. Nurre Funeral Home, 177 W. Main Street, (St. Rt. 125) Amelia on Wednesday from 1:00 until time of services on Wednesday at 2:00PM. Private Interment at Pierce Township Cemetery.
