STAYROOK

Spencer Samuel. Beloved husband of Sylvia (nee Siefert), loving father of Kevin (Carol) Stayrook, Keith Stayrook, and Kurt Stayrook; loving grandfather of Kayla, Catarina, Kolton, Spencer, Whitney, and Quentin Stayrook; caring brother of Miller (Verna Bell), Esther Byers, Eunice Hershberger, Patricia Calloway, David (Grace), and Maretta (Tom) Hammitte. Also survived by numerous brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews. Proceeded in eternal rest by parents Morton and Ruth and by brothers Harold, Carmen, and Luther. Spencer was called home by God after fighting a heroic battle against cancer and the effects of 30 years of MS on February 18, 2013, aged 74. He was born on a farm September 19, 1938 in Hollsopple PA. An athlete at heart he earned high school letters in football, wrestling, and baseball and continued his football-playing career in the Air Force. His love of football and sports in general remained all his life including bowling in the See-More bowling league and coaching St. Gab's women softball team in Glendale for a number of years, as well as his son Keith's baseball team. One of his greatest joys of life was rooting for his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, culminating in his visit to Heinz Field in the Steelers' 2008 championship season. He joined the Army National Guard of PA after high school, eventually enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. Most of his career stationed at Wheelus Air Base in Tripoli Libya and Plattsburgh AFB in New York working in logistics. After his Air Force career he proudly worked in the material support division at the General Electric plant in Evendale, eventually retiring there after a 25-year career. Several years later he embarked on a third career working at Bigg's nearly a decade before permanently retiring. Spencer was a man of honesty, integrity, humor, and hard work. He will be profoundly missed by all. Donations may be made to Heartland Hospice 3960 Red Bank Rd Suite 140 Cincinnati OH 45227. They were heaven sent angels to Spencer and his family during his last days. Although there will be no service per Spencer's request, the family will hold a celebration of life party April 20th at St. Veronica Church in Mt. Carmel from 5:30-9:30.
